The mountains that flow across the park are often 10 degrees cooler than the valley below. Therefore, if you plan to hike up the mountain during any time of the year, it it wise to layer your clothing.
During the summer, rain showers is very frequent, with an average rainfall total of 60 inches per year. This is mainly due to the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf Stream to be more specific. This warm current brings warmer water to the area, and this creates "low-lying cloud formation," or fog. This, therefore, causes the temperate deciduous biome that the Shenandoah National Park lies in. |
