Camping in the Shenandoah National Park is probably the most fun overnight lodging you will ever experience in the park. There are only 4 campground sites in the park which include:

Big Meadows:

Costs $20 per night on the reservation plan, and $17 per night during spring and fall.
Lewis Mountain:

Backcountry camping is on an "isolated, undeveloped, remote area of land that is uneasy to access." A free permit is required for backcountry camping- permits are available through the Park Headquarters through mail.

- Please don't create new campsites, try to camp on pre-existing campsites
- You MUST camp at least 20 yards from a trail or road
- Fires are not allowed, please use a backcountry stove.
- Maximum group size: 10 people
- Food must be stored in the following ways to prevent wildlife from accessing it: 1. In tree, 10 feet from ground, 4 feet from trunk 2. Food pole provided at shelters/camp huts 3. With a "park-approved bear-resistant food storage canister.
- You can't camp: 1 . Within 10 yards of a stream or 50 yards of standing building ruins 2. Within 100 yards of a shelter, and 50 yards from another camping group

Hiking is one of the most popular recreational activities in the park. There is over 500 miles of trails that cover all areas of the park. The trails will take through the beautiful wilderness and allow you to experience the natural wonder of the outdoors.
